Denim is one of the hardest pieces in your closet to shop for. There are so many styles out there, how do you find what works for you? Not to mention, trying on denim isn't exactly the most exciting past time. But when you learn what your denim style is, it goes from feeling like a chore, to something you might even look forward to!
In this blog, we're going to break down the latest styles of denim and how to find the right pair for your body type so you always feel confident.
Cropped Bootcut
The cropped bootcut style is fitted through the thigh with a kick out at the knee. They are cropped in length and generally look best on petite women (5'5" and under). This style is great for almost every body shape, but depending on which body type you are, it may need to be balanced out with something on the shoulders, such as a puff sleeve.
Bootcut/Flare
The flare jean style, or full length bootcut, have made their comeback once again in recent years. This is a trendy style that is fitted from the waist through the thigh and has a wider cut from the knee down to the hemline. They are often stretchy and a great style for fall and winter to pair with boots and chunkier shoes. This is also another great style that works for most body types, but might need to be balanced out on top like the cropped bootcut.
Wide Leg
The most recent trend in denim this year that you'll find just about everywhere is the wide leg style. They are generally fitted through the hips then have a roomier, more relaxed fit through the rest of the leg wit ha 9-12" leg opening. The wide leg style can come in a long or cropped version, making them a versatile style for many women. This style is great for most body types.
Straight Leg
The straight leg style is one of those timeless cuts that will always be on trend. It's cut from the waist to the hemline with no taper, can either be more fitted or baggy, and has a leg opening between 8-10" wide. The "trendier" version of the straight leg style is super baggy and low-rise. Depending on how you style it, the straight leg jean can work for most body types.
Cigarette
The cigarette style jean is the balance between a skinny and straight leg jean. This style is fitted through the hip and thigh, while skimming the body down to the ankle with only a slight taper. The cigarette style leg opening is between 8"-10" and is also considered a timeless style. Like the straight leg, it works for most body types depending on how you style it!
Skinny
We know the skinny jean gets a lot of heat with the younger generations, but despite its controversy, it's considered a timeless style. It all depends on how you style it! The skinny jean is fitted from the waist to the ankle with a taper. It is meant to form fit your body and often made with plenty of stretch. The trendy version of the skinny jean would be low-rise However, the rise often ranges between low, medium, and high, with high being the most common. Skinny jeans are great for most body types, but those who have a rectangle shape will want high-rise and those with a triangle shape may find this style draws too much attention to their thighs.
Barrel
The trendiest jean of 2024 is definitely the barrel jean. Another style that comes with a lot of controversy! Personally, we love a subtle barrel leg and when done right it can be a flattering fit for many body types. It's fitted through the waist, has a bow-like relaxed fit through the leg, and a taper down to the hemline. While unlikely to become a timeless style, it's a fun style to dress up and get creative with when you want to be on trend!
