What to Wear: Outdoor Summer Events

If you live in Iowa, or anywhere that gets hot, humid, and miserable in the summers, then you know it can be a struggle to figure out what to wear for outdoor events. You’d rather stay indoors with the A/C blasting, dreaming of fall (yes, we said it, we’re all thinking it), and the last thing you want to do is put on a nice outfit just to sweat in it. Well, we hope we can help alleviate your pain of figuring out what to wear during the months where it feels like we’re living on the sun

Here are out stylish, yet cool picks for every event this summer!

Outdoor Concert

Whether you’re heading to an all-day festival or just an evening concert, we’ve got you covered. Our best recommendation? An oversized graphic tee! These are perfect for those days when you just don’t want to wear something tight and need a little airflow.

Outdoor Wedding

Outdoor weddings are absolutely beautiful, but you may just soak through your dress (iykyk). Not to worry, we’ve got some tips for keeping cool in those beautiful dresses without the sweat stains.

First, opt for a flowy style, rather than fitted. We know, we love those fitted, silky, dreamy dresses, too, just not if there isn’t a place we can cool off in the A/C. If you want a more defined waist, you could add a belt to any flowy dress. You could also opt for a blouse and a flowy skirt with a defined waist.

For shoes, something you can easily slip on and off. While you might not take your shoes off, there’s nothing worse than blisters from sweaty feet, am I right?

Here are a few of our favorite options:

Baseball Game

Heading to the kiddos games all day in the sun? We highly recommend an athleisure dress—they are perfect for those days when you want something sweat wicking and you know you’ll be in it all day.

Family Photos

Summertime family photos are really popular. I mean who doesn’t want those beautiful sunsets and greenery in the background? We definitely do! Similar to a wedding, we recommend a flowy style dress or skirt. If you’re going more casual, jean shorts or a jean skirt with a dressier blouse can do the trick, too.
